1911 Nicholas C. Merges
House

Called in to do exterior color consulting, we ultimately completed an exterior restoration begun by another contractor. This lovely 1911 home, notable for its fine craftsmanship and original stained glass windows, was fully rejuvenated with a palette of six colors that subtly accents its architectural details.

The restoration of the house’s siding was the perfect opportunity to also make the home more comfortable for the owners.

With new doors and a small deck, they now have immediate access to the outdoors from their kitchen. Careful matching of details, like the stoop over the door to that over the bay window, created a seamless look.

Knowing that [the front porch] would be the focal point of the house, we wanted only the finest artisans in all of Portland to bring the old porch back to life – this had become a labor of love!  My daughter, a landscape architect, researched several local design firms, and after meeting with Wade Freitag, decided that Craftsman Design and Renovation was clearly the one for the job.
