1909 Foursquare

Undoing the damage of ill-conceived and poorly executed remodels, we added not only beauty to this 1910 foursquare, but also durability and living space. We stripped the asbestos siding, repaired and replaced the original wood siding, and matched remnants of the existing trim for extensive restoration. While installing a front porch consistent with the scale of the house, we also added usable outdoor space by adding a second-floor porch.  We employed modern technical advances in building materials but maintained respect for the architectural context. For instance, instead of traditional wood molding, we used extruded foam for the dentil molding, which allowed for easier installation, lowered costs, and longer life.  We installed replacement wooden windows that were double-paned, high-efficiency, and argon-filled, but also appropriately scaled and detailed.
